SelectPac® 5000

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The SelectPac® 5000 is a drum washer designed to separate the remaining fibers from the discharged contaminants by any detrashing devices.

The SelectPac® 5000 is a horizontal drum washer specially designed to overcome the problems inherent to other designs, like mechanical problems on drive, noisy operation, cost of maintenance, difficult installation, etc.

The SelectPac® 5000 main features are:

1. Sturdy but still light frame with removable upper structure for easy drum access.
2. Perforated stainless steel drum
3. Drum suspended inside the driving belts
4. Hollow shaft gear motor 5.5 kW
5. Self cleaning and oscillating shower using clarified water

Components of SelectPac® 5000

Frame

The frame is made of steel structures welded together to make a sturdy support for the drive shaft and the suspended drum.

The frame is usually made of steel and epoxy painted, but can optionally be made of stainless steel.

Stainless steel side panels, which can easily be removed by hands, are attached on both sides of the frame to prevent sided projection.

Drum

The washing drum is made of stainless steel perforated plates rolled and welded together. A screw flight is fitted inside the drum to ensure the displacement of the contraries during drum rotation and operation.

A special hole-pitch is selected to prevent bridging of contraries with holes plugging.

Shower

A special shower is supplied to keep the open area of the drum optimally cleaned.

The shower is designed to operate with clarified water up to 100 PPM maximum.

A cam-shaft ensures a continuous shower oscillations within the drum to cover a wider area during cleaning.

Shaft

The main shaft is fixed at the top of the frame through three supporting bearings.

The shaft supports and drives the two driving v-belt type pulleys.

A hollow shaft gearbox, with primary v-belt drive, drives the whole system.

The drum serves as the driven pulley.

A variable speed motor with frequency variations can be supplied as an option

INSTALLATION

Foundation Bolts

The customer is to furnish all foundation bolts and piping etc. Refer to specification and certified drawings for listing of parts being supplied by H.T.Engineering Works.

The certified drawing shows the foundation bolt size and pitches. It is recommended that foundation bolts be set in suitable sized pockets.

Leveling and Alignment

Install the SelectPac 5000 by lowering it with the foundation bolts attached to the base such that the bolts enter the prepared pockets.

Leveling blocks should be placed in position and the machine approximately leveled before the foundation bolts are finally grouted.

DO NOT complete the grouting of the machine at this stage until the machine has been finally leveled.

Allow sufficient time for the grout around the foundation bolts to set before accurately aligning and leveling the machine. Check that all foundation bolts are correctly tightened, machine aligned and leveled. If these are satisfactory, proceed with grouting the machine.

Piping

Connect the inlet, discharge and dilution pipework. It is essential that all piping be well supported so that no strain is placed on the SelectPac. Consideration should be given to providing loose flanges on pipes that bolt onto the SelectPac. These loose flanges may be welded to the pipe after the holes are seen to match. Use ¼" (6 mm) rubber jointing.

Drive

Mount the motor on the motor support (if motor was not supplied with the unit). Install the coupling on the motor shaft and align it with the coupling on the SelectPac® 5000 drive shaft. Connect the two coupling by bolts.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE BOLTS CONNECTING THE TWO COUPLINGS ARE TIGHT.

Lubrication

The housing has been filled with grease at the factory. However, this may have settled prior to installation, therefore it is recommended that 15-20 strokes be pumped into each bearing after cleansing the greasing points.

OPERATION

Before Start-up

Check the SelectPac® 5000 body for absence of foreign material like rags, tools, etc.

Flush out the machine using clean water.

Check for correct motor rotation.

Normal Start-up Start-up Sequence

1. Start the SelectPac® 5000 oscillating shower.

2. Start the SelectPac® 5000 drive motor.

Normal Shutdown Sequence

1. Stop the SelectPac® 5000 drive motor.

2. Stop the SelectPac® 5000 oscillating shower

MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES

General

Proper maintenance practice will promote trouble-free operation and ensure better machine performance.

Care should be exercised during disassembly to place removed parts in clean, dry and protected locations. If machine is to be left disassembled for a period of time, openings should be protected to prevent entrance of foreign materials.

During re-assembly, all new replaced parts should be checked carefully prior to installation to ensure that they are proper for that particular location. Use proper tools and equipment to facilitate performance of fine quality work.

Bearing

Supplied bearing requires lubrication at regular intervals.

Replacement Bearing

Detach main shaft from the gearmotor (hollow shaft type).
Remove V-belts by slowly raising the drum to set loose the belts from the drive.
Remove the split-type drive pulleys from the main drive shaft.
Remove the plummer block housing one at a time starting from the end of shaft until all bearings have been removed from the shaft.

Drum Removal

Remove the drum by removing first the belts strapped to its body. Then remove the guide rollers and the side cover to allow easy removal of the drum from the main frame.

Extra care should be applied to protect the drum from any damage during the removal of the driving belts.

SUGGESTED SPARE PARTS FOR MILL STOCKROOM

When ordering spare parts, it is always best to take information from the certified prints. In this way, you can be certain that you are ordering the exact part you want.

When writing up or telephoning in a spare part order, it is helpful to give the following information :

1. Size, model and serial number of the equipment in which the parts will be used.

2. Part description and drawing number.

3. If part has been ordered previously, it is desirable to have the most recent purchase order number and the date of purchase.

To ensure you supply of replacement items, it is H.T.Engineering Works recommendation that the following parts be kept in your permanent inventory.
